The Reelout Queer Film + Video Festival is an eight-day cultural festival that celebrates the diversity of sexual and gender diversity through the exhibition of films from around the globe. Now in our eleventh year, REELOUT has distinguished its reputation as a world-class champion of queer, independent cinema and the artists who create them.

REELOUT is the 2nd largest film festival of its kind in Ontario

The appetite for independent films continues to grow in Kingston. REELOUT attracts a diverse and vibrant audience including:

  • The GLBTTQ (queer) community.
  • Film enthusiasts from the larger community.
  • Students from local High Schools, Queen’s University, St Lawrence College and the Royal Military College.
  • Media artists and various other members of Kingston’s artistic community.
A 2009 survey of audience attendees revealed:
  • The largest audience in age demographic was 19 to 34 years old (57%)
  • 80% of our audience live in Kingston
  • 35% of the 2009 audience was attending the festival for the first time while 31% has attended the festival for 2-3 years
  • 50% of our audience polled identified as Female, 27% identified as Male and 23% identified as either Trans/Queer/other or n/a
Excellent feedback has been received from local media, festival patrons, film festival organizers and programmers from other provinces.

MARKETING AND ADVERTISING AT REELOUT

Our continued marketing strategy for our eleventh year emphasizes target audience attraction and social networking. We will continue to advertise the festival through our media sponsors which includes:

  • PSAs, ticket giveaways, guest appearances on CFRC FM radio.
  • PSAs on COGECO during the month of January.
  • Advertisements in The Kingston Whig-Standard and Capital Xtra.
  • 800 x 26 pages, full colour, glossy program guide distributed throughout Kingston, Ottawa, Belleville, Brockville and upstate New York.
  • 200x full colour, glossy Festival Posters and 200x full colour, glossy postcards.
  • Newly designed reelout.com will provide detailed information about the festival, the films, the guests, parties, panels, and sponsors.
  • Reelout will continue its presence at other events in the city distributing promotional materials.
