Reelout is thrilled to partner up once again with that gang of uber cool hipster awesome cats behind the Skeleton Park Arts Festival. Wait! Did we say ARTS festival? It seems our scenester buddies have expanded the annual music festival to include other disciplines including the installation we will be co-presenting on SUNDAY JUNE 23rd at 7pm at The Artel Arts Accommodation & Venue (205 Sydenham Street).
Featuring a selection of felt banners created by Joel Gibb, Berlin-based Canadian artist and singer-songwriter of the Hidden Cameras, this exhibition explores connections between his art and his music, as well as the way tradition and new forms of symbolism are literally interwoven in the works. Bright colour planes, semi-religious references and contemporary symbols intertwine to create a fascinating collection of works that remain playful despite their at times dark subject matter, representing ‘A coat of arms for the modern artist-singer-songwriter’ as Time Out New York put it.
