reelout queer film + video festival

Position: Graphic Designer
Term: Contract
Salary: $2000.00

reelout arts project inc. is seeking a graphic designer to design all promotional materials for the 10th annual reelout queer film + video festival. The successful candidate must be passionate about the arts and must be able to produce a winning design that represents reelout’s vision, purpose, and mandate. Candidates must be results-oriented and possess excellent communication and organizational skills. The individual will be primarily responsible for creating and designing promotional material for the festival including the program, the festival poster, and ads for newspapers and magazines while adhering to tight deadlines and schedules.

• Responsible for the creation and design, from conception to completion of: festival program, posters for the festival including the main festival poster, the opening gala poster and party event poster, festival tickets, festival ads, and a banner for reelout website.
• Responsible for making sure images are print-ready, e.g. correct colour selected for print.
• Responsible for ensuring all advertising and sponsors are included in the festival program.
•Responsible for properly uploading and saving elements of graphic art (i.e. photography) on computer servers according to established procedures.
• Ensure that all work generated and/or supplied texts are accurately reviewed for errors and imperfections.
• Responsible for ensuring that all materials are delivered to the printer and advertising outlets and that they are in proper formats and produced within the allotted time as outlined by reelout staff and advertisers.

Requirements
• 3+ Years experience as a Graphic Designer- print focused job, not web-focused- but Web experience is an asset.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, proof-reading and editing skills, and knowledge of print production processes.
• Demonstrated proficiency in current graphic design practices and print production software.
• Strong typography, layout and colour-theory skills with the ability to colour correct images for print.
• Strong layout & design skills and excellent attention to detail.
• Passionate about design.
• Superior organizational skills.
• Excellent creative abilities, problem solving and communication skills.
• High ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines and provide superior quality, print-ready files.

reelout celebrates our 10th year!

reelout will host its 10th annual queer film + video festival in January 29 to February 8, 2009. We have already begun to plan for the festivities and we want you to join us!

reelout has launched its reelout in schools project! This project will bring together youth-oriented queer film and video with anti-discrimination workshops for youth in secondary schools in Kingston. Our workshops will work with youth to help create strategies for safe schools for all youth. For more information about the project, email education@reelout.com
