Breakfast On Pluto
Neil Jordan/UK/Ireland/2005/35mm/135min

Leaving 1960s small town life and moving to the big city to become a performer sounds like a common plot line, but for foster kid Patrick “Kitten” Brady it is so much more. Brady (Cillian Murphy) leaves Ireland for the stages of London where he transforms into Kitten - the cabaret singer and the inner self that Brady spent his childhood trying to understand. The situations and relationships in which Kitten finds herself are sad and real but often filled with humour. In the end, she is not unlike those around her. She is, like they are, just looking for love. With an outstanding supporting cast including Liam Neeson, Stephen Rea, and Brendan Gleeson, Breakfast on Pluto serves up a poignant look at being a transsexual woman in the 1970s.
