Chances are, the subjects of these short docs aren’t familiar house hold names yet their stories resonate with the filmmakers enough to  provide the platform to share their stories through their craft.

Pierre Khoury is a Montreal born belly dancer of Syrian origins. Belly dance is an art that is mainly performed by women, but men also have a role in the history of this dance.This short documentary presents Pierre’s story as well as an overview of men’s role in this field. Pierre tells us about how he came to be becoming a belly dancer despite his family’s misgivings.

Stavros is looking for love and acceptance by entering the ‘Mr Gay UK’ beauty pageant, a showcase for some of Britain’s hottest men.  At 420 pounds, Stavros weighs 3 times as much as his competitors. Undeterred he signs up, but things don’t go to plan- for Stavros or the pageant organizers.

Simply Rob is a portrait of Bronx based Poet and Activist Rob Vassilarakis. Estranged from his family when he was just a teenager because of his sexuality, Rob fell into a world of self-hatred and drug abuse. In 1993 he was diagnosed with HIV, he was 22 years old. After years of rehabilitation Rob now uses his eloquence and honesty to inspire and educate others. Told through his poetry the film weaves lyrical imagery with Rob’s resonating words to tell a personal journey of a man coming to terms with his sexuality and living with HIV.
